Club History

In the Beginning ...
On January 14, 1926, John Burt, a Rotarian in San Rafael, was recruited by Rotary headquarters: "Governor Tom Bridges writes us that there is a mighty good little town up near you folks, which in his opinion, ought to have a Rotary Club".
In Mill Valley, Harry Petrie, vice-president of the Muir Woods Railroad, showed some interest in Burt's proposal. Predictably, he was promptly targeted as the club's first president. He did his job and enough men got together enough times in the right spirit that the Mill Valley club received its charter, #2370, on July 20, 1926. At the time there were already 118,000 Rotarians in 2,200 cities in 35 countries around the world.
